"Learn to create. Influence change. This is the mission of Art Center College of Design."-Art Center College of Design website.
The Art Center College of Design was founded in 1930 by Edward A. Adams, and has since grown and changed into a great school for art. The photography department was added in 1931 and Ansel Adams began teaching at the school 10 years later. The School moved to a bigger better campus in 1947 to allow for greater growth and expansion but the photography department stayed at the old campus at seventh street. In 1949 the school began awarding Bachelor degrees in professional arts. In 1965 Don Kubly became the new president of the school, and the name was changed from the Art Center to the Art Center College of Design. The art center moved again in 1976 to Pasadena California. In 1987, the same year Doug Aitken attended the college in California, another campus opened in Europe, in Switzerland which stayed open for 10 years. Doug Aitken graduated from the college in 1991.
Today the school has been recognized among the top design schools in the world by Bloomberg Businessweek, one of the top 25 global film schools by the Hollywood Reporter, and in the Top Twenty rankings in U.S. News "Best Grad Schools".
